Beneath The Blog

This blog is meant to capture my findings from Art History 1400-1940. Ideas that i’ve come to through our readings and class lectures. I’ve made it my goal this semester to improve my creative writing and find my voice as a writer. I left my old blog posts from Prehistoric Art History (semester one) on this site to look back on and track my progress.

What makes a successful blog post (class lecture)

  • Compare/Contrast- Bringing in the past to the present to make what your reading relevant and interesting
  • Describe the image to your reader, point out specific details that a reader would overlook on first glance.
  • COPYRIGHT; a lot of works in the year 1400-1940 are under public domain. There are many copyrighted images and it is always best to cite properly across the board. This could appear as follows

  • Blog posts can be more informal in terms of their narrative tone. The use of i, we, you can be added to make the writing seem more personal. **this is unique to only public writing not scholarly writing
  • Add elements of critique when appropriate. Offer a better idea of something new or your opinion on the success of a work or
  • Make the writing fun. “If it is not fun to write it will not be fun to read”
  • Expand your vocabulary and be creative with this writing. It can be written similar to how you speak to make it feel more personal
  • A balance of text, sizes, pictures, fonts can be fun to a reader as well, formatting can make
  • ORIGINAL TITLE
  • Clear and concise opening statements, good hook; a good hook can be a statement of an interesting fact, a small anecdote, a quote, and (most appealing to art historians) a rich description.
